NETS & retrieval

NETS - the Newborn and paediatric Emergency Transport Service - gives 24/7 phone advice, clinical coordination, and retrieval for sick babies across NSW. Call early, even just for advice.

NETS referral line: 1300 36 2500 (24 hours). One call gets you advice and, if needed, transport.
When to call

  • You need advice or help to stabilise.
  • Respiratory or other support beyond the unit's capability.
  • Suspected surgical, cardiac or metabolic problem.
  • A baby who may need a higher level of care.
  • When in doubt - call; advice is always available.
How to call

Have these ready

  • Baby's name / details, gestation and weight.
  • The problem and current support.
  • Observations and what you have done so far.
  • NETS coordinates advice and transport in one call.
While you wait

Keep stabilising

  • Keep the baby warm and well-supported.
  • Secure airway and IV access as able.
  • Continue stabilisation - the NETS song sheets are a great step-by-step aid.
  • Document, and keep the parents updated.
